SERGEANT BLUFF -- Maurice "Maurey" Topf, 74, of Sergeant Bluff died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Steven J. McLoud officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Salix, Iowa, with military honors provided by the 185th Air Refueling Wing. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. vigil service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service. Maurey was born on Feb. 23, 1937 in Salix, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Lucy (Lenz) Topf. He graduated in 1955 from St. Joseph's High School in Salix. Maurey then joined the Iowa Air National Guard and also farmed near Salix for many years. Later, Maurey worked as a manager in retail stores and then managed the Atokad Park Race Track.

In July 1995, he was united in marriage to Linda E. Clark in Sioux City. Maurey was involved with many civic activities and organizations. During the past few years he enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren.

Maurey's passion in life was aviation. Since his youth, when he first saw an airplane in flight, he wanted to fly. He earned his pilot's license in 1972. Maurey, following his dream and love of aviation, founded the Mid-America Air Museum in Sioux City.

Maurey is survived by his wife Linda; his sons, Tim Topf of Omaha, Neb., Dan Topf and his wife Carina of Sioux City, and David Clark and his wife Marissa of Kearney, Neb.; a daughter, Deb Ulven of Sioux City; his stepdaughters, Deb McCreary of Elk Point, S.D., and Christy Verros of South Sioux City; 12 grandchildren, Cailey, Patrick, Emma, Rachael, Joe, Chris, Halli, McKenzie, Addison, Brittney, Aiden and Montae: his brothers, Lawrence Topf and his wife Eileen, of Sloan, Iowa, Donald Topf and his wife Liz of Quincy, Ill., Nicholas "Joe" Topf and his wife Ann of Carroll, Iowa, David Topf of Richmond, Va., and Denny Topf and his wife Kathy of Ft. Collins, Colo.; his sister, Pat Hanssen and her husband Lee of Lee Summit, Mo.; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Treudau; and two infant brothers.
