PIERSON, Iowa — Mildred D. Karsten, 93, of Mesa, Ariz, formerly of Pierson, died Thursday, March 27, 1997, in Mesa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Correctionville, Iowa. The Rev. Marvin Mueller and the Rev. Scott Meier will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Pierson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Karsten was born Oct. 6, 1903, in Pierson, the daughter of Charles F. and Helene (Petersen) Puttmann. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

She married Erwin A. Karsten on Nov. 15,1924. She was employed as a part time bookkeeper for Karsten. Implement Company in Pierson, which the couple owned for many years. They moved Sterling, Colo. in 1963. They spent their winters in Arizona before moving there in 1981.

Survivors include her husband of Mesa; a daughter, Lorna H. Wissink of Waverly, Iowa and Mesa; a son and his wife, Myron and Ginette of Apache Junction, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Ella Elser of Pierson; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be directed to the Salem Lutheran Church.
