Joseph J. Coe, 72, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Arnold Herbst officiating. Private graveside services will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Coe was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Sioux City, the son of Arthur and Mable (Rustad) Coe. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Wilma Echols on April 17, 1964, in Sioux City. He was employed as a sheep buyer with Farmers Union, later retiring from the maintenance department of Norwest Bank.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sioux city.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters from a previous marriage, Laurie, Sandi and Lynda; a stepson and his wife, Richard and Lisa Echols of South Sioux City; and six grandchildren, Michelle Watson, Ginny Ferch, Arnie Brandee, Bobby and Billy Echols.

He was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert L. Echols.
