CUSHING, Iowa — Alma (Schlichting) Kuchel, 96, of Cushing died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, at the Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, with the Rev. Douglas Opp officiating. Burial will be in Cushing Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon on Wednesday at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Mrs. Kuchel was born Feb, 18, 1900, in Holstein, Iowa, the daughter of Claus Ferdinand and Wilkemina (Siebker) Arp.

She married Otto Schlichting on Feb. 28, 1919.

The couple farmed near Cushing until 1932, when they moved into Cushing and operated the Standard Station. He died July 14, 1939.
She married Otto Kuchel on April 1942. The couple moved back to the farm until his death on Sept. 4, 1967. She returned to Cushing the following year.

She enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Kuchel was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the American Auxillary.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Duane and Jane Schlichting of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren, Steve and Amy Schlichting and Robert Greenwald; two great-grandchildren; a step-daughter, Madonna Brosamle of Cushing; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Frances and Florencp Greenwald; a son, Earl Schlichting; three brothers, Harry, Rudolph and Albert; and two sisters, Hilda Doose and Leona Gebers.

A memorial fund has been established.
