CUSHING, Iowa — Douglas Gardner Stoneking, 64, of Cushing died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at his residence.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, with the Rev. Douglas Opp officiating. Burial will be in Cushing Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Barker Funeral Home in Holstein, Iowa.

Mr. Stoneking was born Aug. 23, 1932, in Harmony, Minn. the son of Vernon and Alma (Gardner) Stoneking. He moved to Gushing as an infant. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill.

He married Beverlyn Nielsen on Dec. 3, 1955, in Cushing. He was employed at the family plumbing and heating business and repaired radios and televisions. In 1972 he became the owner of Stoneking Plumbing and Heating.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Roger Baumann American Legion Post 624. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis and his wife Leanne of Northwood, Iowa and David of Saudia Arabia; a daughter and her husband, Jeanne and Dennis Schwab of Audubon, Iowa; his father of Correctionville, Iowa; seven grandchildren; Ashley, Desiree, Laura, Carolyn, Mark, and Mary Stoneking, and Peter Schwab; and a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Betty of Cushing.

He was preceded in death by his mother.
