Bernard E. Clausen, 69, of Sioux City died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at his residence, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Doug Dandurand, of the University of St. Thomas, and the Rev. Ernest Caltvedt officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by American Legion Morningside Post 697, will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Clausen was born Dec. 28, 1927, at Sioux City. He attended East High School. He married Dawn L. O'Dea on Oct. 30, 1954, at Sioux City. He was a life long Sioux City resident and worked for Continental Baking until going to work for the Bakers Local Union 433, as president and business agent, retiring on Feb. 19, 1988.

He was a member of AFL-CIO-Tobacco and Confectionary Workers, American Legion Morningside Post 697. He was in the armed services during WWII and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife of Sioux City; four sons, Kirk V. and his wife Rhonda of Henderson, Nev., Klint and his wife Nancy, and Kevin, all of Sioux City, Kelly E. and his wife Roxanne of Rockford, Ill.; ten grandchildren, Trent, Trevor, Jennifer, Joshua, Wendy, Ryan, Sean, Megan, Tyler, and Andrew; six brothers, and their wives, Royle and Marjorie, Larry and Dorothy, Darrell and Vesta, all of Sioux City, Arnold and Bernice of Onawa, Iowa, Gail and Lucymae of Craig, Iowa, Richard and Mary of Tallmadge, Ohio; a sister and her husband, Donna and Lawrence Ellyson of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claus and Elsie.

Pallbearers include Jim Daane, Ronald, Rodney, Gary, Tim and Richard Jr.
