HOLSTEIN, Iowa/ Lars Henry Ludvigson, 73, of Holstein, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at his residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cushing, Iowa, with the Rev. Joelle Coville Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Cushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Ludvigson was born Sept. 19, 1926, in rural Holstein, the son of Ed and Ruby (Madsen) Ludvigson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Holstein. He was educated in the rural .Griggs Country School.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan from 1951 to 1953.

He married Joan Ehlert on March 14, 1954. The couple lived south of Cushing, where they farmed and raised livestock, most recently focusing on purebred cattle. The couple moved to Holstein in 1993.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council.

He was a 45-year member and Past Commander of the American Legion F. Roger Bauman Post, served on the Ida County Fair Board the Farmers Coop Board, and belonged to the Simmental, Red Angus, and Black Angus Associations. He also served on the Iowa Simmental Board for six years.

He enjoyed traveling, raising cattle, watching sports, reading and being a mentor to young people.

Survivors include his wife; two sons: Park and his wife, Darla, of Cushing, and Ryan of Billings, Mont.; three grandchildren: Kellen, Keisha, and Kari Ludvigson; three sisters: Evelyn Weaver of McAlester, Okla., LaVinna Wiese of Cushing, and Maybelle and her husband, Arthur Glick, of Seminole, Fla.; a brother, Don of Holstein; a brother-in-law, Gene, and his wife Sally, of West Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristin; his parents; and his parents-in-law, William and Dorothy Ehlert.
