ONAWA, Iowa — Muriel E. Parsley, 97, of Onawa, formerly of Sloan, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Elwood Care Centre in Onawa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa, with the Rev. Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Parsley was born Oct. 3, 1902, in Platte, S.D., the daughter of Myron Edward and Anna Belle (Masheck) Burgess. She moved with her family to the Hornick, Iowa area as a child. She graduated from Hornick High School.
During high school, she assisted her father as a railroad telegrapher. She had also been an assistant mail carrier and railroard depot agent.
She married Walter C. Parsley on Dec. 24, 1921. in Sioux City. The couple lived in the Sloan, Hornick and Holly Springs area until moving to a farm near Sloan in 1937. They moved into Sloan in 1963. He died Feb. 3, 1972, in Sloan. She entered Elmwood Care Centre in 1993.
She enjoyed art, writing and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Walter K. of North Sioux City; three daughters, Doris Frame of Lodi. Calif., Marjorie Robley of Salix, Iowa, and Judy and her husband, Dan Jones, of Turin, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren: and 15 great-great¬grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Stevens; a brother, Roy Burgess: two sisters, Itha Freshney and Eileen Burgess; two grandchildren, Herbert Robley Jr. and Donald Robley; and a great grandchild.
