13 September 1990Esther Thomas, 81, Sloan, Iowa, died Saturday, September 1, 1990, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Whiting, Iowa.’
She was born May 23, 1909, at Albaton, Iowa, near Sloan to Fred and Annie (Anderson) Larson. She graduated from Sloan High School and completed three months Normal Training to be a teacher. On February 8, 1930, she married Glen Thomas in Sioux City, Iowa. She taught school for four years at Albaton and worked at the Onawa Dairy Queen for three years. She was a lifelong Whiting and Sloan area resident.
She was a member of Skien Lutheran Church at Albaton where she had taught Sunday School. She was a 4-H leader for several years in the Badger Lake area and had won several trophies for golf and bowling, both sports she loved.
Survivors include; her husband, Glen; one daughter, Barbara Ahrendt of Tempe, Arizona; one daughter-in-law, Jane Thomas of Longmont, Colorado; three sisters, Evelyn Clifford of Long Beach, California, Ethel Hopkins of Clear Field, Utah and Doris Thomas of Sloan; one brother, Merle Larson of Sloan; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Karen; one son, Ronald; and one brother, Lynn Larson.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 Tuesday, September 4, 1990 at Skien Lutheran Church at Albaton, Iowa with Rev, Peter V. Boe officiating. The organist was Mrs. Norman Westergaard and the soloist, Mrs. Arnold Brenden, sang “It Is Well With My Soul”.
Casket bearers were Mike Wilt, Jon Roarson, Norman Westergaard, Jewell Waugh, Robert Hummel and Maurice Brenden.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Albaton, rural Sloan, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
