21 March 2002WHITING, Iowa -- Donald D. Turkleson, 67, of Whiting died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Turkleson was born April 4, 1934, in Owego, Iowa, the son of Robert D. and Edna (Harding) Turkleson. He was raised in Owego and attended school there and later in Salix, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Army in 1956 and served until 1958.
He married Sandra Rasmussen on Aug. 22, 1958, in Onawa. The couple lived in Sergeant Bluff. He worked at Nixon Feeds in Sioux City and farmed with his father. He later worked for Sioux Harbor Truck Stop until his retirement due to his health. The couple had lived near Salix for the last 13 years.
He was a member of the Christian Church in Salix and collected John Deere tractors. He enjoyed fishing, his dog, Mutley, and long Sunday drives.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Salix, Iowa; a daughter, Linda Haire and her special friend, Rick of Jackson, Neb.; two sons, William D. and his wife, Korri Turkleson of Mapleton, Iowa, and John Turkleson and his special friend, Marla of Salix; a sister, Kay Galland of California; two brothers, Ken Turkleson of Sparks, Nev., and Rick and his wife, Sheryle Turkleson of Missouri; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Doris Simms.
