9 August 1987Zoe Gustafson Tanner, 79, of Sun City, Ariz., and formerly of Sioux Cirty, died Wednesday at the Sun City care center following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Augustana Lutheran Church with the Rev. Greg Witte officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 a.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Mrs. Tanner, the former Zoe Warren was born July 4, 1908, in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1925. She received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She married Carl R Gustafson on June 29, 1932, at Boone. The couple made their home in Onawa, where they operated the Onawa Cafe and she taught kindergarten. They moved to Sioux City prior to 1935 and owned and operated the Jackson Motel in downtown Sioux City until it was sold and torn down in March of 1969, for Urban Renewal, Mr. Gustafson died August 3, 1969, in SIoux City. She married E. Keith Tanner on July 24, 1981, in Sioux City. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Arizonia during the winter months.
She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church. She was a member of Chapter HZ P.E.O., Isis Chapter #173; Order of the Eastern Star; the Quota Club, and the American Association of University Women.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Carolyn) Perley of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Mrs. Paul (Marcia) Secord of Pasadena, Calif.: a brother, Harold Warren of Wheaton, Ill., and three grandchildren.
Memorials have been etablished in her name with Augustana Lutheran Church and the P.E.O. Continuing Education Fund.
