Emma W.Thul, age 96, of rural Danbury, Iowa, died on Friday, April 10, 1987, at the Willow Dale Nursing Home in Battle Creek, Iowa, after a long illness.
Services were at 10;30 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 1987, at the St Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with Pastor Les Kimball officiating. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 1987, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.
Mrs. Thul, the former Emma Wunsche, was born on January 6, 1891, to Paul and Dora (Maempel) Wunsche in Harburg, Germany, and came to the United States in 1912. She married Otto Thul on February 16, 1912, at Ellis Island, New York. They lived in Illinois for a time, then farmed in Schleswig, Iowa, for two years. The couple moved to a rural Danbury farm in 1914. Mr. Thul died on February 25, 1965. She entered the Willow Dale Nursing Home six years ago.
She was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church and its Lois Circle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sons, two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs Leo (Agnes) Treiber and Mrs. John (Elsie) Dose, both of Danbury, Iowa; two sons, Henry of Storm Lake, Iowa, and George of Danbury, Iowa; thirty-one grandchildren and fifty two great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Michael Thul, Paul Thul, David Dose, Robert Thul, Dale Thul and Donad Dose.
