Clara Marie "Carrie" Munger Sibley, 96, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Private burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Carrie was born Oct. 15, 1916, to Ruth Lyon and Dr. Francis Munger of Bayard, Iowa. She graduated from Bayard High School and Grinnell (Iowa) College.

Carrie moved to Sioux City to live with her uncle, Judge Robert H. Munger. She was employed at the Sioux City Public Library.

She married Dr. Edward H. Sibley on June 22, 1940, in Grinnell.

Carrie was a charter member of St. Luke's (Methodist) Regional Hospital Auxiliary, where she served as president. She was active in Su-Med-Dames, an organization of women whose husbands were practicing physicians. She logged more than 2,500 hours as a volunteer in these organizations.

She served as a Sunday school teacher at First Congregational Church for 25 years, including 10 years as superintendent. She was president of Women's Fellowship and chairwoman of the church bazaar for two years. In addition, Carrie was a member of Fortnightly Study Club and Chapter IA of PEO. She also served as a volunteer in Sioux City schools. Carrie was a Cub Scout den mother for many years and the proud mother of four Eagle Scouts. Carrie was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed deeply by her four sons and their families.

Survivors include her sons, Sam (Cammie) of Evanston, Ill., and their daughters, Carrie and Kathryn; Edward (Jane) of Sioux City and their daughter, Laura; William (Cora) of Sioux City and their daughter, Jennie; and Thomas (Jennifer) of St. Joseph, Minn. and their daughters, Alex and Anna; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Maude James; and her husband, Dr. Edward H. Sibley.

Memorials may be directed First Congregational Church or the Sioux City Public Library Foundation.

The family would like to thank North Park Senior Living, Stoney Brook Suites, St. Luke's medical staff and chaplains, and Hospice.
