Charles "Chuck" L. Smith, 68, of Sioux City, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gary Harris officiating. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Chuck was born June 23, 1944, in Sioux City, the son of Melvin and Virgie (Cunningham) Smith. He attended school in Sioux City.

Chuck married Tim Kunkel on Jan. 23, 2010, in Sioux City.

Chuck was a chef in the area. He began working at the Flamingo Inn in South Sioux City. He later worked for 25 years at Sioux Harbor Truck Stop and 23 years at Theo's Steakhouse. Most recently, he worked part time at Green Gables and Sweet Fanny's (now known as SoHo).

Chuck enjoyed playing cards and dice, and crocheting. During the spring and summer, he enjoyed working in the flower garden.

Chuck enjoyed catering many of the Saturday in the Park and Awesome Biker Nights in Sioux City.

Survivors include his spouse, Tim; his daughter, Jackie Chism of Avoca, Iowa; his sons, Blake (Cathy) Smith of Oceanside, Calif., Chad (Angie) Smith of Rochester, Minn., and Kelly (Keely) Smith of Dakota Dunes; a sister, Judy (Earl) Bowman of South Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Vernon, Russell, Donald and Melvin; and a sister, Alma Dye.
