Robert "Bob" Krueger, 85, formerly of Sioux City, a prominent real estate developer, passed away on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Memorial services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Boulevard. Graveside services will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Robert Krueger was born in Wakonda, S.D., in 1927, to Mark and Ann (Seff) Krueger. He attended the University of South Dakota. He relocated to Sioux City in his early 20s. An entrepreneur from an early age, Bob began his career managing the Uptown Theater on 27th and Pierce streets.

Bob later took over managing the Frances Building when his father retired. He was a sharp businessman as well as a kind and fair landlord, signing letters to his tenants as “the friendly landlord." He was named “Boss of the Year” in the mid-1970s. Bob was one of the most influential real estate developers that Sioux City has ever known. His contributions include but are not limited to the downtown skywalk system, Sioux City Sue gambling riverboat, downtown office buildings and retail area, Transit Plaza and numerous Hamilton Boulevard retail shopping centers.

Additionally, Bob contributed generously in the community by serving on numerous boards, including the Sioux City Art Center, Tax Research Conference Board, Sioux City Chamber of Commerce, Woodbury County Cancer Society, Briar Cliff College, Sioux City Country Club, Industrial Council Board, Mount Sinai Temple, Sioux City Community Theater, First National Bank, Sioux City Convention Center and the Downtown Improvement Committee.

Bob was united in marriage to Betty Dimsdale on April 22, 1965 in Sioux City.

Krueger had a wonderful sense of humor and it was one of his most endearing qualities. He was warm and humble, with an insatiable work ethic, a kind heart, and a deep love, dedication and commitment to his family. In 1990, Bob and Betty chose to semi-retire in Rancho Mirage, Calif., at the Springs Country Club, where Bob served four years on its board of directors, and served the country club for another three years remodeling the club house. Bob was an avid golfer and also enjoyed travel, cooking, especially his barbecues, playing bridge and spending time with his many good friends.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Krueger; their three children, Craig Krueger and fiancee Elise Firestone of Fort Lee, N.J., Scott Krueger and wife Pamela of Olympia, Wash., and daughter, Mindy Geisser and husband Adam of Bellevue, Wash.; and six grandchildren, Ethan Krueger, Oliver Krueger, Liam Geisser, Joshua Geisser, Eden Geisser and Rachel Geisser.

Please send donations in memory of Robert Krueger to Congregation Beth Shalom, 1320 Nebraska Street or to Briar Cliff University, Attention: The Krueger Family Scholarship Fund.
