Noah Jonathan Baker, 29, of Missoula, Mont., formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at home.

Services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel. Visitation will be noon to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be left at www.christysmith.com.

Noah was born Dec. 5, 1983, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Dr. Michael and Susan (Schmit) Baker. He lived briefly in Cherokee, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1985. He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City in 2002. He received his Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and psychology at the University of Iowa in 2006. He received his master's degree in clinical psychology from the University of Montana, Missoula, where he was currently completing the Ph.D. program in psychology. He was in the process of interviewing for multiple internships.

He worked with the Tribal Defender’s Office in Pablo, Mont.

Noah was an amazing young man, full of life and a true joy to be around. Everyone who knew him delighted in his infectious laugh and smile along with the fact that he made them feel completely at ease. Incredibly funny, he was also a deep thinker and constant student of philosophy. Noah was at home in the mountains and loved sharing the stories of his encounters in nature. While he aspired to have a career in clinical psychology from a desire to help those in need, he had already accomplished this with his generosity and spirit throughout his life. Everyone he came in contact with will be forever better off for having known him. Others will benefit from his organ donation.

Survivors include his parents, Dr. Michael Baker, psychologist, and Susan Baker of Sioux City; his fiancée, Desi Gilbert of Missoula; two brothers, Dylan (Heidi) of Ellicott City, Md., and Aaron (Sarah) of Wickford, R.I.; a sister, Michele (Casey) Langseth of North Liberty, Iowa; two nieces, Layla and Addison Langseth of North Liberty; maternal grandmother, Mary Lou Schmit of Waterloo, Iowa; other survivors, Tyler Gilbert, Jesse Gilbert and Clay Gilbert; nephews, Matteus, Cole and Derek Gilbert; a niece, Kaitlin Gilbert; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John "Jack" and Shirley (Potter) Baker; maternal grandfather, Edwin Schmit; an aunt, Jan Schmit; and cousins, Brock and Tanner Schmit and Christopher Bass.
