Irene E. Vannorsdel, 93, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 in Dubuque.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Peace Reformed Church, with the Rev. Bob Rook officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Irene was born June 14, 1919, on a farm in Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Ida Borgeson. She attended Grand Meadow Schools.

Irene married Max Vannorsdel, on Jan. 22, 1941 in Marcus, Iowa. They lived in Washta, Pierson, and Kingsley, Iowa before moving to Sioux City in 1967.

Irene was a loving mother and homemaker who enjoyed a variety of activities such as crafts of many kinds and golf. Her lifelong passion was her family and her love of flowers. She was engaged with church activities, Ladies Aid, and was a camp counselor for many years. She was a member of Kingsley Church of the Brethren, Morningside Reformed Church and later, a founding member of Peace Reformed Church.

Max and Irene’s home was blessed with two sons, Jerry (Sharon) Vannorsdel of Dubuque, and Dave (Debbie) Vannorsdel of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; and a daughter, Colleen (Dick) Lee of Ormand Beach, Fla.

She is survived by her three children, their spouses and eight grandchildren, Kevin (Kristin) Vannorsdel, Randy (Becky) Vannorsdel, Greg (Laura) Vannorsdel, Marina (Andy) Helm, Steve Skourtis, Dustin Lee, Rachel (Patrick) Dorn, and Becky Vannorsdel; eight great-grandchildren, Zack, Dylan, Kayla, Ben, Nick, Morgan, Cora and Max; and her sister, Marion (Dean) Hansen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max; one brother, Walter (Charlotte) Borgeson; and three sisters, Mildred (Ernest) Oberg, Edith (Henry) Schipper and Helen (Gary) Braunschweig.

Memorials may be directed to Peace Reformed Church or Feed My Starving Children.
