16 December 2012William Rene Eckerman, 71, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand of Immaculate Conception officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Bill was born in Ponca, Neb., on Sept. 25, 1941. He graduated from Maple Valley High School and continued on to apprentice as a meat cutter in retail grocery.
Bill was married to Myrna Davis on June 30, 1962; they were married 46 years. Bill worked as a meat cutter for Schwartz’s, National, Red Owl, Piggly Wiggly, Boulevard, and Hy-Vee for more than 45 years
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was also actively involved in the Amalgamated Meat Cutter’s Union many of the years of his early career.
Bill is survived by his children, Chris Eckerman and Shelly Eckerman of Copperas Cove, Texas, Cindy Murray and Brian Murray of McCook Lake, S.D., and Charles Eckerman and Sherrie Whitlock of Sioux City; grandchildren, Timothy Eckerman, Kristina Eckerman, Kristopher Eckerman, Billy Murray and Dezeri Nelson; great-grandchildren, Kayli Murray and Nicholas Nelson; a brother, James Eckerman; a sister, Helen Hunsaker; five nieces; five nephews; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ella Eckerman; his wife, Myrna Eckerman; a sister, Doris Delaney; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Davis and Susan Davis; and a niece, Mary Dye
