LAWTON, Iowa-- Mildred M. Holmes, 80, of Bentonville, Ark., formerly of Lawton, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Bentonville.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Community Presbyterian. Church in Lawton with Elder Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holmes was born Aug. 9, 1919, at Lawton, the daughter of Herman and Mary (Goldsmith) Peterson. She graduated from Iowa Normal School with a degree in teaching.

She moved to Bentonville in 1968 from Grass Valley, Calif., where she was a teller at Bank of America. She was a hostess chairmaan for the After Five Christian's Women's Club, and had been an active member since the chapter was organized. She was active in church activities at the First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville.

She was an avid Arkansas Razor-back basketball fan.

Survivors include a step-daughter and her husband, Janet and Vance Cooney of Rogers, Ark.; two brothers, Louis and Clifford Peterson both of Sioux City; two sisters, Helen Vermilyea and Emma Peterson both of Sioux City; four step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Holmes: and two brothers, Albert and Arthur Peterson.
