Services held Saturday, Jan 20th for Emma Peterson

Emma Martha Peterson, 88, of Sioux City died Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services were at 140 p.m. Saturday, January 20 at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton with Dr. Wayne Peach officiating, Burial was in Banner Township Cemetery. Christy Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Chase, Dale, John ande Rhett Peterson and Steve and Tom Schults.

Miss Peterson was born June 29, 1912, in Lawton, the daughter of Gustav Herman and Mary Helen
(Goldsmith) Peterson. She was raised in Lawton. She graduated fromn Lawton High School and Cedar Falls Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She moved to Sioux City, where she taught school, then to Lonetree, Iowa where she also taught, She then moved to Upland, California where she taught for 10 years. She also attended Whittier College of California.

She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women and the Garden Club. She was also a member of several different teachers organizations. She had received numerous awards and achievements for her teaching.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Vermilyea of Sioux City; two brothers, Louis Peterson and Clifford Peterson and his wife, Eileen, all of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Louise Peterson of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Albert Peterson; and a sister, Mildred Holmes.

Memorials may be directed to the Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton.
