Thomas G. Goodwin, 64, of Sioux City died Sunday, March 29, 1998,at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bert Burwell officiating. Private family burial was held earlier in Banner Township Cemetery at Lawton, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Berkemier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Goodwin was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Glen and Irene (Burgen) Goodwin. He moved with his family to Spencer when he was a child and raised there. He served in the U.S. Army with the 245th Tank Battalion in Japan and Korea, and with the 4th Infantry Division and the 2nd Armour Division in Germany. Following his discharge, he returned to Spencer.

He married Shirley Holmburg on July 15, 1961, in Worthington, Minn. The couple moved to the Sioux City area in 1966. He was employed as a foreman with Nebraska Steel Erection Company, retiring in 1982. She died in June 1973. He then married Florence "Flo" Pranke on April 15, 1976, in Elk Point, S.D.

He was a former member of the Ironworkers Union 184.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Rhonda and her husband Mark Meylor and Paulette Allen, all of Sioux City, Virginia Kappler and Cynthia Goodwin and her husband Rick Van Order, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sons and their wives, Michael and Rita Timblin, Kenneth and Maurine Timblin and Jeffrey and Rita Timblin, all of Sioux City; three adopted children, Neal Kappler, Deborah Price and Cindy Barnes; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack and his wife Barb of Lawton and Mike of Phoenix; two sisters, Pat Kringle and Grace and her husband Skip Wilcox, all of Spencer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry; and a brother, James
