LAWTON, Iowa — Ellis Ray Howard, 100, of Lawton died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at a Sioux City retirement home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Harold E. Werley officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the McCulloch Funeral Home in Moville, Iowa.

Mr. Howard was born June 24, 1897, in Woodbury County, Iowa, the son of James and Martha(Cromwell) Ellis. He attended rural Lawton country school.

He married Gertrude Hegstrorn on Sept. 21, 1918, in Dakota City. He farmed in the Lawton area all his life. He moved into Lawton in 1975.

He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church, the Farm Bureau and the Black Angus Catttle Association.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Wayne and Lila of Moville, Bennett and Helen of Springville, Calif., and Robert and Bev of Sioux City; two daughtets, Phyllis and her husband Roy Beeman of Burkburnett, Texas, and Adeline Riedesel of Glidden, Iowa; a sister, Hazel Babb of Spirit Lake, Iowa, a brother, Stanley of Inglewood, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; five brothers, Avery, Cecil, James and Wayman; and a son-in-law, John Riedesel.

Pallbearers will be Gary, Eric and Greg Howard and Miles Riedesel.
