LAWTON, Iowa — George Herschel Coker, 83, of Lawton died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton with the Rev. Jim Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery in Lawton. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Mr. Coker was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Shelby, Iowa the son of William and Clara (Ickes) Coker. He graduated from Shelby High School.

He served in the United States Army.

He married Harriet Babcock on Jan 5, 1943, in Las Vegas, Nev. They moved to Lawton in 1946.

He was vice president at First Trust and Savings Bank in Lawton.

He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, the Masonic Lodge and American Legion Post 718 of Lawton and was a charter member of Western Iowa Telephone Association.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Richard Alan and Lisa of Parker, Colo., and Donn George and Patti of Colleyville, Texas; a daughter and her husband, LeeAnn and Gary Schmidt of Wayne, Neb.; 10 grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas; a brother, Orville, and a sister, Mary Ellen Day. ,
