Roscoe I. Hess, 86, of Lawton died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with Dr. Robert E. Peters officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the McCulloch Funeral Home in Moville, Iowa.

Mr. Hess was born Jan. 15, 1911, in Ida County, Iowa. He moved with his family to the Lawton area as a child.

He married M. Lorraine Sams on Dec. 25, 1932, in Bronson, Iowa. She died Oct. 15, 1995, in Sioux City.

He farmed in the Lawton area and was a deputy for the Woodbury County Sheriff's Department in his early years. He also did field measurements for the ASCS office.

Mr. Hess was a member of Community Presbyterian Church and the Woodbury County Farm Bureau. He played his fiddle and accordian at many barn dances and collected guns.

Survivors include a daughter,Janet McNaughton of Kingsley, Iowa; three grandchildren, Roxanne, Clay and Brett MeNaughtom two great grandchildren and a brother and his wife, Clifford and Lois Hess of Anthon, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Raynard McNaughton.
