Bertha N. Christensen, 77, of Lawton died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson, pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Christensen was born April 17, 1920, in Luton, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Goldie (Bloomer) Mercer. She was raised in the Luton area.

She married Louis P. Christensen on Dec. 31, 1941, in Dakota City. He died Dec. 9, 1982, in Sioux City. She was employed as a sewing instructor and salesperson with Singer Sewing Machine Company for 20 years.

She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, where she taught Sunday School for many years and the Lawton P.T.A.

Survivors include two sons, Louis P. of Oxnard, Calif. and Donald and his wife Jolene of Omaha; two daughters and their husbands, Judith and Curtis Forst and Gayle and John Brennan, all of Omaha; four grandchildren, Stephanie H. Savoy, Amber C. Forst, Derek A. and Seth R.Christensen; a brother and his wife, Lloyd and Lorraine Mercer of Canton, S.D.; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Ernest and Margaret Christensen of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Elizabeth Cleveland.
