Phyllis Devine Died 2011

WEST DES MOINES- Phyllis Devine, 86, passed away on Friday, April 22,2011, at Mercy Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Mclaren's Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemeiery. Visitation was held prior to the service.

Phyllis was born in Correctionville, lA, the daughter of Fred "Piney" and Elsie Freeman and grew up in a newspaper family. She was a graduate of Danbury High School and the American Institute of Business. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, working in Washiqgton D.C. at the War Medal Office. Phyllis was Executive Secretary/Treasurer of Alpha Iota, an international business women's association in Des Moines where she planned national conventions, edited their publications and ran their national office.

She married George Devine, who had the office next door in 1979. Phyllis loved to travel including cruises and RV trips. She enjoyeci boating, riding motorcycles with George, music, and was an accomplished organist.

She was loved by family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, George Devine; daughtel Sue Schmitt of Long Beach, CA; step-sons, George (Teri) Devine, Jr. of Cottage Grove, OR, and Mark Devine of Grimes, lA; step-daughter Sara Devine of New Port Richie, FL; grandchildren,Heather, Jeff (Cindy), Dustin, and Dillon Devine; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Lily.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wiiliam Schmitt; son, Robert Schmitt and a sister, Mary Jane More.

Memorial contributions may be given to the scholarship fund for Mercy Medical Center, Physical Therapy III.
