CUSHING, Iowa — Edmund Walter Grell, 74, of Cushing, died Saturday, May 23, 1992, at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee after a short illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, with the Rev. Douglas Opp officiating. Burial will be in the Cushing Cemetery under the direction of Barker-Ritchie Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Grell was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Cushing, the son of Hans Sr. and Dorothea (Bergmann) Grell. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1935. On Nov. 24, 1937, he married Gwendolyn Whyte at his parents home. The couple farmed near Cushing for 30 years and were also involved in sales for Archer Oil. He was also a field representative for Federal Crop Insurance. In the late 1960s, he quit farming to become a district manager for Cargill Seed Co. and later transferred to McCurdy Seeds. He retired at the age of 67.

Mr. Grell was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Grell and his wife, Sally, of Cushing, Martin Grell and his wife, Jane, of Kearny, Ariz. and Conrad Grell of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Ernest Grell, and his wife, Ernia, of Washta; nine grandchildren, Susan Grell, Kimberly Clarkson, Jill Howard, Lisa Rabbass, Terri Wildt, Lynette Grell, Brock Grell, Angella Grell and Stephanie Grell; and seven great grandchildren, Michael Clarkson, Shawna Rabbass, Ben Rabbass, Sara Howard, Alex Rabbass, Ashley Rabbass and Chantel Wilt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Henry, William, Hans, Fred and Louis; and two sisters, Emma Sorenson and Ella Grell.
