CUSHING, Iowa — Margaritha Katharina "Grace" Volkert, 100, of Cushing died Sunday, Oct. 15,1995, at the Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.

Services will be 10:30 Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing with Pastor Douglas Opp officiating. Burial will be in the Cushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mrs. Volkert was born Oct. 12, 1895, in Union County, Alcester S.D., the daughter of Carl and Maria (Schuldt) Denker. She married William Volkert Nov. 20, 1920, in Cushing. The couple farmed until his death in 1959. She remained on the farm, with most winters spent in Texas, until 1989, when she moved to the care center.

Mrs. Volkert was baptized as an infant and was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and many church and service organizations in Cushing.

Survivors include a son, William and his wife, Lois Volkert of Sioux City; two grandsons, Jon Volkert of Chicago and Tom Volkert of Correctionville; a granddaughter, Dana Olson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six great-grandchildren; four great¬great-grandchifdren; three sisters, Carrie Kuhlman of Wagner,Isabelle Mitchell of Ravinia, S.D., and. Gladys Hewitt of Sacramento, Calif., and many nephews and nieces.

She was also preceded in death by five brothers, George, Joseph, Edward, Walter and Fred; and a sister, Wilhelmina "Minnie."
