Luverne Henry Hintz, 71, of Cushing died Tuesday, Nov. 14,1995, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing with Pastor Douglas Opp officiating. Burial will be in the Cushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 3 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Hintz was born Dec. 1, 1923, on a farm four miles southwest of Holstein, the son of Henry C. and Gertrude (Schmidt) Hintz. He attended country schools in Ida County and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1941. He married Helen Foltz Feb. 26, 1944, in Ida Grove. The couple farmed southwest of Ida Grove until 1944, when he farmed with Andy Hendersen until moving to Cushing in 1953. He worked for Eckerman Construction Co. of Holstein (1953-1956), owned the Mobil Tank Wagon (1956-1959), Joyce Lumber Co., later the Co-op Lumber Co. in Cushing, Correctionville and Ida Grove (1959-1983) and Grinell Mutual Insurance of Moville (1982-1988).

Mr. Hintz was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he was a council member. He served on the city council (1964-1982) was mayor (1982-1991), cemetery commissioner (1964-1992),Cushing Fire Department 21 years, Boy Scouts 13 years; Cushing schoolbus driver 12 years, past chairman of the Woodbury County Mayor's Association, member of AARP Advisory Committee for three years and Cushing Farm and Town Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Larry L. and Bonnie of Hubbard, Neb., and Jerry and Kathy of Keystone, Iowa; two daughters and their husbarids, Lanette and Gaylord Kroeger of Omaha and Diane and Randy Behrens of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren, David and Larry E. Mintz, Greg and Brad Croeger,Matt and Troy King, Heather and Jeff Hintz, Kim, Rob and Rory Semelroth and Dusty Hintz and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
