HORNICK, Iowa - Frederick Martin Rose, 89, of Hornick died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Hornick, with the Rev. Carolyn Bittner officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with, a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Wood Funeral Chapel in Sloan, Iowa.

Mr. Rose was born April 7, 1912, in rural Hornick, the son of Edward and Ella. (Eichhorn) Rose. He graduated from Hornick High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 743rd Tank Battalion as a tank mechanic. He owned and operated Rose Hardware in Hornick for 50 years.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Hindman-Steele American Legion Post 492 and was a 55-year member of the Hornick Fire Department.

Survivors include four nephews and their wives, Glen and Nancy Rose of Harlingen, Texas, Chuck and Paula Rose and Earl M. and Liz Rose, all of Hornick, and David and Cathy Rose of Rapid City, S.D.; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marvin Rose; and three grandnephews.
