Boyd K. Mehl, 80, of Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at his residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodis Church, with the Rev.Sheryl K. Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa.

Visitation will be 1 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Mehl was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Holly Springs, the son of Reuben and Ocie (Workman) Mehl. He was raised in Holly Springs and graduated from Holly Springs High School in 1938.

He farmed near Holly Springs before serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Althea E. "Allie" Laux on Oct. 1942, in St. Louis, Mo. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1945.

He was employed with Sears for more than 35 years, retiring in 1982 as a division manager.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kay Mehl of Rochester, Minn., Connie and her husband, Larry Bethards, of Iowa City, Iowa, and Janet Mehl of Rio Rancho, N.M.; two sisters and their husbands, Alice and Walter Carson of Fairhope, Ala., and Ardyce and Richard Lechner of Sioux City; and two grandchildren, Kelby and Jared Bethards.

He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

Pallbearers will be Larry, Kelby and Jared Bethards, Tom Victor, Don Marsh and Jerry White.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or Grace United Methodist Church.
