ANTHON, Iowa — Walter Dean Petersen, 72, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Petersen was horn Dec. 7, 1927, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the son of John and Leta (Barger) Petersen.

He graduated from Anthon High School in 1945. From 1945 to 1946 he participated in Golden Gloves boxing.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948. After his discharge, he attended Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Survivors include a sister and her hushand, Martha Ann and Donald Liars of Albuquerque; a brother and his wife, Ben and Marnis Petersen of Anthon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John W. Petersen.
