ANTHON, Iowa | Betty A. Edkin, 81, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Anthon, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 2700 SE Virginia, Topeka. Interment will follow in Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. Betty will lie in state after 3 p.m. Tuesday, where the family will have a parish prayer service at 5:30 p.m. and receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka.

Betty, a retired nurse, was born July 9, 1931, in Anthon, Iowa, the oldest of four children, to Henry W. Peters and Olive Sharkey Peters. She was residing at Aldersgate Village since January 2012. She was an avid reader and loved scrapbooking and history.

Betty is survived by her four sons, Michael Harris of Springfield, Mo., Scott Harris, Jeffrey Harris and Wayne Edkin II, all of Topeka; two daughters, Joan Veronie of Topeka, and Marla Long of Whiteville, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Briggle of Danbury, Iowa, and Barbara Franzkowiak of Ida Grove, Iowa; a brother, James Peters of Mapleton, Iowa; and numerous other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Edkin; daughter, Linda Selbach; grandson, Thomas Scott (Tommy) Harris; and two great-grandsons, Fredrick Studebaker and Seth Harris.
