Derek Calvin Groszkrueger, 15, of Correctionville died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at River Valley High School Gymnasium in Correctionville, with the Rev. Joelle Colville-Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p .m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Derek was born May 16, 1985, in Sioux City, the son of Greg "Buzz" and Sharen (Finzen) Groszkrueger. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and currently a sophomore at River Valley High School.

He was active in football, playing offensive guard and defensive tackle. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, Iowa, and Rock¬Kee-Union 4-H Club for eight years, where he showed sheep. He was also a member of the local roping club. He enjoyed competing on his horse, football, golfing and fishing.

Survivors include his parents; a sister and her husband, Frankie and Brandon Deeds of Correctionville; a brother, Shawn of Correctionville; grandmothers, Grace Groszkrueger and Delores Bahrke, both of Correctionville and Delores Duffy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a niece, a nephew and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Bill Finzen and Henry Groszkrueger; and an uncle.
