Paul "Darrell" Beeson, 83, of Washta died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Cherokee Villa in Cherokee, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Quimby, Iowa, with Monsignor Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial will be in Anthon Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Mr. Beeson was born May 3, 1917, in Woodbury County, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mabel (Coon) Beeson. He attended school in Washta and graduated from Washta High School in 1934.

He married Olive Dessel on June 4, 1938, in Cherokee. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Hawaiian Islands and Saipan in the South Pacific. Following his discharge, he was employed at the lumberyards in Washta, Marcus and Eagle Grove, Iowa. He went into the Standard Oil business in 1939, retiring in 1975. He also drove school bus for Willow Community Schools, retiring in 1982.

He was a charter member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He served on the Washta Fire Department and was a member of Washta Town Council for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and cars.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia Meyers and her fiancee, Jerome Hentz of Fort Worth and Mary and her husband, William Larson of Cherokee; six grandchildren, Larry and Paul Meyers, Sheryl Kolb, Stacey Prokop, Teresa Friedrichson and Heather Larson; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beulah Cook of St. Paul, Neb.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas, and a brother in infancy.
