Gilmore Mead, 85, of Oto died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996, at a Sioux City Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oto with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in Mount St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Mr. Mead was born Aug. 19, 1911 near Oto, the son of Charles and Hazel (Eckert) Mead. He graduated from Oto High School in 1930. He worked in the oil business following graduation.

He married Cecilia Walling on Dec. 28, 1937 in Oto. The couple farmed in the Oto area and he drove a truck for 18 years. The couple have been spending the winters in Texas since 1948. He was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Mead was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Stephen and Vicky of Oto; a daughter and her husband, Janet and Bruce Weier of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren; and a brother, Gus Mead.
