ANTHON, Iowa — Loyd O. Newman, 78, of Anthon died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996, at his residence following a long battle with cancer.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m, Tuesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, with the Rev. David Hogan officiating. Burial will be in Mount St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil Wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary conducted by the Knights of Columbus, at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon. Visitation will resume Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Mr. Newman was born July 19, 1918, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Oathie and Laura (Crum) Newman.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married May Reinbold on Feb. 17, 1947, in Anthon. He farmed in the Anthon area and was a truck driver for over 20 years.

Survivors include his wife; his mother of Correctionville, Iowa; four daughters and their husbands, Mary and Don Cogley of Bakersfield, Calif., Julie and Bob Kerns of Anthon, Annette and Chuck Cloud of Oto, Iowa, and Debora and Mike Fath of Des Moines, Iowa; one son, Larry of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Newell of Correctionville.

He was preceded in death by his father; one granddaughter, Allissa; and three brothers, Harry, Leonard and Harold.
