Beulah R. McDermott, 85, of Castana died Thursday, March 28, 1996, at the Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Chuch in Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. David Hogan officiating. Burial will be in Mt, St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Anthon.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday with a 3:30 p.m. rosary by the Altar Society and a 7 p.m. vigil wake service at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Mrs. McDermott, the former Beulah Jerman, was born Oct. 14, 1910, in Lucky Valley near Anthon, the daughter of Oliver Martin and Mary Helen (Hahn) Jerman. She helped her father and brothers run a dairy in Anthon, delivering milk for school. She married W. Raymond McDermott on May 25, 1933 in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Anthon area until 1955, when they purchased the Ideal Cafe in Oto, Iowa, and operated it until 1964. Mr. McDermott died Jan. 25, 1964.

Mrs. McDermott then moved to Mapleton, where she worked for Haubrich Lumber, Straub Lumbet, Farmer's Co-op, McNear Oil and Beef N Brew. She moved to Castana in 1984 and to the Elmwood Nursing Home, in 1991.

Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn and her husband Gerald Grant of Castana, Betty Bonner of Omaha, Neb., and Dorothy Yockey and a special friend Kenneth Barnes of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Lucille and Merle Newt White of Sioux City, 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Margaret and Mary Ellen; a grandson, Gerald Grant Jr.; a great-grandson, Mark Kinney; and four brothers, Gerald, Harold, Raymond, and Joseph.
