CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa — Jason Neil Nicolaisen, 17, of Correctionville died Monday, June 28, 1999, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa from complications of spina bifida.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Correctionville. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present 2 to 5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Jason was born Dec. 15, 1981, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Steven and Linda (Dettbarn) Nicolaisen. He was raised on a farm near Correctionville. He attended preschool, elementary school and middle school at Anthon-Oto, Kingsley-Pierson, Eastwood, and Anthon-Oto-Maple Valley Schools. As a student at Washington High School in Cherokee, he participated in Special Olympics. He received gold medals in the state bowling and basketball dribbling competions.

He worked at Cherokee County Work Service.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed collecting caps, playing cards and computer games.

Survivors include his parents; a sister, Tracy; a brother, Aaron; his grandparents, Vernie and Ferne Nicolaisen of Cherokee and Myron and Dorothy Dettbarn of Westside, Iowa and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
