CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa — Dorothy Elouise Bruene, 77, of Correctionville died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at her daughter's residence in Sioux City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, Iowa, with the Rev. Scott Meier officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Correctionville.

Mrs. Bruene was born March 19, 1921, in Correctionville, the daughter of Elmer Ervin and Bernice Gail (Allvin) Sellman. She was baptized in the Church of Christ and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Correctionville High School in 1938 and received her normal training teaching certificate. She taught school for one and a half years.

She Married Merlin Bruene on Aug. 26, 1941, in Dakota City. The couple farmed near Cushing and later moved to the family farm near Correctionville. In 1983, they moved into Correctionville. He died in 1988.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she helped with the quilts. In 1986, she was the Governor Volunteer of the Year for the state of Iowa. In 1987 the Adult Volunteer of the Year for Iowa Health Care Association and the Colonial Manor's Volunteer of the Year in 1986. She enjoyed crochtting and playing bingo.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Kirk and Karen of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Sherrie and Tom Strong of Mason City, Iowa, Jenette and Alfred Patocka and Jolene and Jim Thomas, all of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Lowell and Grace Sellman of Hastings, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Gladys Strackbein of Battle Creek, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Brian and Branden Strong, Scott and Tammy Boeshart, Kayla, Kyle and Korey Bruene; two step-grandchildren, Anita and Lynette Patocka; a greatgrandson; a nephew; and five nieces.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sellman and Ina Mae Jones; and a brother-in-law, Arthur Strackbein.

Memorials in her name may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church.
