MOVILLE, Iowa — Duane C. Thies, 72, of Moville died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville with the Rev. Michael Kroola officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery in Correctionville, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m at the McCulloch Funeral Home in Moville.

Mr. Thies was born April 25, 1925, in Sibley, Iowa, the son of Fred and Theresa (Harms) Thies.

As a small child he moved to Sioux City and attended school in Sioux City.

On June 20, 1948, he married Norma Scoles Harder at Salem Lutheran Church in Correctionville.

He also lived in California moving to Moville in 1975.

In the earlier years he was a truck driver and them employed by the United States Postal Service retiring in 1984. He also worked at Meadows Golf Course.

In 1942 he served in the United States Marines in the south pacific and then in the Korean War in 1951.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Julie and David Meyer of Moville; a son and his wife, Greg and Kathy of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Jeffery and Lindsay Allan; and three sisters, Arlene Bernhardt and Janice Wink both of Moville and Carol Seavey of Alta, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a sister Marjorie Streeter; and three brothers, Elwood and two in infancy.

Pallbearers will be Craig, Brad and Kirk Utesch, Duane Poppen, Bryan Alfredson and Kirk Walker.
