PIERSON, Iowa — Amanda M. Beers, 82, of Pierson died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at her residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Anthon United Methodist Church in Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. Kent Kastler officiating. Burial will be in Correctionvi1le Cemetery at Correctionville, Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Thonna Chapter 423 Order of the Eastern Star service at the Armstrong Funeral Home of Anthon.

Mrs. Beers was born April 23, 1914, in Sioux City, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Giffrow) Mattus. She was raised in the Sioux City area and attended school there.

She married Wesley A. Beers on Jan. 13, 1936, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple farmed in the Cushing, Correctionville and Anthon, Iowa, areas. He died April 10, 1964.

The couple was foster parents for many years. After his death, she continued as a foster mother for special needs children.

She operated the Uptown Hotel in Sioux City until her retirement in November 1995, when she moved to Pierson.

She was a member of the Anthon United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Thonna Chapter 423 Order of the Eastern Star of Anthon.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Donald and Helen of Kingsley, Iowa; four daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Maurice Arvin of Moville, Iowa, Bonnie and Danny Saxen of Pierson, Vera and Bill Madison of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Betty and Charlie Klinefelter of Aubrey, Texas; a foster son and his wife, Herbert and Barb Fischer of Denver, Colo.; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a brother and his wife, Alex and Delores Saide of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Abe.
