Kenneth Edward Wright, 74, a longtime employee of the Sioux City Journal died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Church of Christ in Correctionville, Iowa, with the Rev. Clifton Cockburn officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Mr. Wright was born July 22, 1926, in rural Correctionville, the son. of Bert and Maude (Ashmore) Wright. He lived most of his life in Sioux City. He attended Correctionville and Sioux City schools. He finished his high school education by attending night school following his marriage.

He married Mary Alberty March 1, 1950, in Elk Point, S.D. He began working in 1943 for the Sioux City Journal at the age of 16. He started as an office boy and worked his way up to become the first manager of the dispatch department, which he initiated. He retired in 1973 due to poor health.

Following his retirement he wrote and did historical research. His historical feature articles have been published in the Sioux City Journal and many other publications.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Dan and Joann; two grandchildren, Renae Jo Ann and Alicia Marie; two nieces; and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
