Tyler Raymond Newman, 12, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 30, 1997, at Marian Helath Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Tyler was born August 11, 1984, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Jerry and Shirley (Sherwood) Newman. He was a lifelong resident of Salix and was a 7th grade student at Westwood Community School in Sloan.

He liked to play basketball and summer baseball and was involved in the DARE program.

Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Shirley Newman of Salix; a sister, Ashlee and a brother, Matthew, both at home; grandparents, James and Maxine Newman of Salix, Iowa, and Betty Sherwood of Midland, Michigan; uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Raymond Ellsworth Sherwood.

A Scripture Service was held at 7:00 PM, Monday, February 3, 1997, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa, with organist, Mrs. Greg Heisterkamp and Cantor, Mary Holzerland.

The Funeral Mass was at 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 4, 1997, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa, with Father Bruce Lawler, Mass Celebrant. The organist was Mrs. Greg Heisterkamp and the Cantor was Dorothy Hubert.

Casket Bearers were Bill Small, Rich Folsom, Randy Hansel, Dave Huot, Bob Lee, and Tom Hansel.

Interment was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salix, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
