Service held for Ardell

Ardell S. Countryman, 85, of Kingsley died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Sunrise Manor in Sioux City.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 9 at Pierson United Methodist Church in Pierson, Iowa. Burial was in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa. under the direction of Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Dorothy Nafe and Patsy Herbold provided the music. Pallbearers were Roger King, Bob Weaver, Dennis Anfinson, Don, Jahn, Wayne Rieckman, and Lee Anfinson.

Mr. Countryman was born May 3, 1915, in Moville, the son of Cleveland Eli and Susie (Schaeffer) Countryman. He lived on a farm until he moved with his family into Moville in 1926. He attended rural school in Rutland Township, rural Kingsley. He graduated from Moville High School and then attended Morningside College. He then moved with his family to a farm in Rutland Township.

He married Grace Petersen on September 7, 1937. The couple farmed on the family farm. He entered Sunrise Manor in July, 2000.

He was a member of Pierson United Methodist Church, where he was active on the church board and taught Sunday School. He was a member of Rutland Lodge A.F. & A.M., where he was a Past Master; Sioux City Consistory; Abu Bekr Shrine; Vintage Wheels; and Order of the Eastern Star.

He served on several boards and committees, including Producers Commission Co.: Woodbury County Farm Bureau, where he was a former president; Farm Services Co.; Pierson Farmers Co-op Elevator, where he was a former secretary; and as a township trustee.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Adair and Ruth of Pierson; a daughter and her husband, Sally and Joel Seglem of Pierson; six granddaughters, Elizabeth Crocker, Julie Griffith, Janet Uecker, Linda Countryman, Michelle Seglern and Renee Seglem; five great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Dayton and Ruth of Nevada, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
