SIOUX CITY | Michael Joe Stevens, 69, formerly of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Oct. 14, 2012, at his residence. He lived a fulfilling life throughout his years.

A celebration of life service was held at the AmVets in Fountain Hills, Ariz., where many of his friends gathered to share their memories. Another celebration of life service will be held at a later date in Sioux City. Mike's ashes, along with his deceased dogs' ashes, will be distributed according to his wishes at a later date.

Mike was born in Valdosta, Ga., on Sept. 13, 1943. His family moved to Sioux City, where he graduated from East High School. He then attended Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He also attended the Merchant Marine Academy and was in the Air National Guard in Sioux City. While living here, he was the original owner of Mike's Saloon, home of the famous Bingo Burger, and was a well known contractor. In 1982, Mike moved to Fountain Hills, Ariz. He lived and built homes there for more than 20 years. He then lived in Tonto Verde, Ariz. for a number of years. His last residence was outside of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Mike's love of his life and "kids", as everyone who loved him knew, were his dogs. He had lost Otis, OJ, Divot, Tippy, Tyler and Tucker. He was currently residing with Madison, Miss-E and Molly.

Mike is survived by his father, Gale Stevens; his brother, Mark (Cindy) Stevens; and his sister, Gail (Bill) Everard.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Verna (Swanson) Stevens.

We will always love and cherish the times and memories spent with him. Mike will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
