SIOUX CITY | Shirley M. Bruns, 86, of Everett, Wash., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Oct. 16, 2012.

Services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marysville, Wash. Burial was in Holyrood Cemetery. Please send your condolences to 24862 NE Second Court, Sammamish, Wash.

Shirley was born on July 26, 1926, in Merrill, Iowa, one of 13 children of Henry and Josephine Bauerly. Shirley Mary was raised on a farm in Iowa. She lived in Sioux City until moving to Washington state in 1983.

Shirley was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and adoring great-grandmother. She dedicated her life to raising her family. She enjoyed card playing, sewing and was an accomplished baker. Her specialties were cinnamon rolls, peach pies, and divinity. Shirley warmed the hearts of all that had the pleasure of knowing her with her engaging smile and affectionate hugs.

She is survived by her children, Gregory Bruns, Barbara Newman, Theresa Waters, Raymond Bruns, Julie Nierenberg and their spouses. Shirley leaves behind her 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by John, her loving husband of 56 years; her beloved daughter, Sherrie Marie; and her dear great-grandson, Evan Ray Sawyer.
