September 13, 2012Grant C. Mitchell, 70, of Bountiful, Utah, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, in Salt Lake City after an extended illness.
Services were held in Bountiful. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery in Dixon County, Neb., at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Lindquist Mortuaries in Bountiful.
Grant was born March 31, 1942, in Scotland, S.D., the son of Virgil B. and Hazel (Dixon) Mitchell. He grew up in Sioux City, where he attended school and graduated from Briar Cliff University. Grant served in the U.S. Navy.
He resided in Onawa, Iowa, Rapid City, S.D. and St. Augustine, Fla. He worked in real estate for more than 35 years before retiring in Bountiful. He owned Mitchell Realty Inc. in St. Augustine.
Grant was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, genealogy and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Ellie; children, Steve, Grant Jr., Travis, Jason, John, David, Adam, Wendy Mustacci, Sandra Smith, Holly Parker and Jill Carver; 25 grandchildren; three brothers, Joe (Joan), Ken (Jan) and Tubby (Peggy) Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Virgil "Sonny" Mitchell.
