Bettye. L. Nelson, 73, of Hornick died Friday, April 5, 1996, at a Sioux City.hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Hornick with the Rev. Karen Dearchs officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery in Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m, Monday with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the Wood Funeral Home in Sloan, Iowa.

Mrs. Nelson, the former Bettye Epperson, was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Bronson, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Margaret(Rerick) Epperson. She graduated from Bronson High School in 1940 and married Paul V. "Slim" Nelson Sr. on Jan.18, 1941, in Sioux City. The couple lived in Luton, Iowa, before moving to Hornick in October 1942. Mr. Nelson died Feb. 21, 1989, in Hornick.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Historical Railroad Society and the Fire Department, Ladies Auxuiliary,all of Hornick, as well as the Siouxland Railroad Historical Society. She was also a volunteer for Red Cross and Goodwill Industries.

Survivors include seven sons, Dennis and his wife Janet of Onawa, Iowa, Donald of St. Paul, Minn.,Paul "Shorty" and his wife Dana, Ed and is wife Connie, Robert and his wife Debra, and Tim and his wife Judith, all of Hornick, and Thomas of Venice, Italy; five daughters and their husbands, Opal and Ray Scoggins of Dacono, Colo., Paula and Chuck Rose of Hornick, Sally and Gary Hunter of Sloan, and Tina and Larry
Hinkel, and Pamela and Perry O'Connor, all of Mapleton, Iowa; a sister, Lois Epperson of Sioux City; 24 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by two sisters, a brother, and an infant grandson.
