George E. "Gene" Kelsey, 74, of Smithland died Saturday, Feb. 24, 1996, at his home following a brief illness of cancer.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Smithland with the Rev. Karen Dearchs officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, rural Holly Springs.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m.. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Willman Funeral Home of Rodney is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kelsey was born April 4, 1921, in rural Smithland, the son of George and Edna (Smith) Kelsey. He graduated from Smithland High School in 1938 and spent his entire life farming in the Smithland community.

Mr. Kelsey was a Member of United Methodist Church of Smithland, where he had served on the official board and the board of trustees. He was a 50-year Mason having been a member of Amicable Lodge 289 AF & AM of Smithland and Quarry Lodge 404 AF & AM of Mapleton.

Survivors include two sisters, Gertrude Cory and Josephine Mitchell, both of Smithland; two brothers, Deane and his wife, Jeanette and Harry, all of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Jule Kelsey, of Brainerd, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mable Kelsey Hall and three brothers, Charles, Bruce and Ward.
